Located in the former P. Cvirkos street (now Pamėnkalnio street 24). The walls of the café were decorated with fabulous artworks by Birutė Žilytė and Algirdas Steponavičius, who later became National Prize winners, there was furniture specially designed for children, and live squirrels were crawling around in the window!
For almost three decades, the playful menu, cosy and warm atmosphere have made Nykštukas one of the city's most popular family places and a particularly warm memory for everyone who has tasted its signature bunny meatballs. Today, the café's former guests - today's parents of children and their grandparents - remember Nykštukas and the afternoons spent there with nostalgia, especially since the café on Pamėnkalnio Street is long gone. Neither the authentic interior of "Nykštukas" nor the impressive B. Žilytė and Steponavičius's wall paintings of well-known fairy tale characters - the nine-headed dragon, the long-eyed maiden and the tailless wolf. Many people are convinced that the famous mural has been irrevocably destroyed, but...

Birutė Žilytė (1930) Lithuanian graphic artist, book illustrator, winner of the National Prize. Her work is characterised by bright colours, folklore and folk motifs. Algirdas Steponavičius(1927-1996) Lithuanian artist, graphic designer, writer, winner of the National Prize, who left his deepest imprint in book illustration. Steponavičius' work is diverse and distinctive.
