The second volume of Zupagrafika’s “Eastern Blocks” series further expands the photographic survey of concrete suburbs scattered across the territories of the former Eastern Bloc. From Ukraine to Georgia, from the Baltic Sea to the Balkans—this book documents the architecture of the socialist era, which fundamentally transformed the urban landscapes of Central and Eastern Europe after World War II: from large-scale modernist projects and brutalist monoliths to the often-overlooked prefabricated high-rise neighborhoods and their distinctive typologies.

The publication features more than 180 photographs by Zupagrafika founders David Navarro and Martyna Sobecka, along with additional works by local photographers and an introductory essay by architectural historian Kateryna Malaia. “Eastern Blocks II” is divided into 10 chapters, each dedicated to a single city—Chișinău, Kaliningrad, Lviv, Minsk, Prague, Riga, Sofia, Tallinn, Tbilisi, and Vilnius—offering valuable insights into postwar modernist architecture in each region.
