Vytautas Kernagis - Theatre of Song

To mark the 75th anniversary of Vytautas Kernagis' birth in 2026, the Vytautas Kernagis Foundation presents a collector's set of vinyl records of "Song Theatre"prepared for the Jubilee Year.

The collection consists of the updated "Song Theatre" LPs:

- The View from the Mountain (1986)
- Go Your Own Way (1987)
- Povo link (1988)
- On Hunting (1989)

Also in the set you will find photo albumfeaturing moments from different periods of the life of Daina's Theatre and interviews by Vytautas Kernagis, revealing what Daina's Theatre lived and what it was trying to achieve.

"Dainos teatras" (Song Theatre), which started in 1985, was a unique phenomenon on the Lithuanian stage. The ensemble, formed by Vytautas Kernagis, created theatrical musical programmes that organically blended song, poetry and theatrical narration. This project lasted until 1991, leaving a distinct imprint on Lithuanian culture, and to this day has no analogue.

As Kernagis himself said: "Song theatre is neither sad nor happy in itself. The means of expression here can be very diverse - from parody and joke to drama and tragedy. Song theatre doesn't fit into the concept of 'incidental music', because anything is possible."

These four discs not only reflect one of the maestro's most creative periods, but also symbolise the cultural pulse of an entire era. The vinyl set will not only become an exceptional collector's trophy, but also an important cultural heritage marker, allowing us to hear and experience in a new way what was once a fascinating experience for packed houses.
